12 Arrested Over Pro-Nazi Chants at Hajduk Split-Ajax Match in Croatia

Police in Split arrested 12 Hajduk Split fans on suspicion of inciting violence and hatred after supporters shouted antisemitic insults and praised Adolf Hitler before Thursday’s match against Ajax. Thousands had marched behind a car carrying a mock coffin bearing Ajax’s name, and some fans later clashed with police and threw flares and other objects onto the pitch, interrupting the game for 12 minutes. President Zoran Milanović and Croatia’s government condemned the incident and called for sanctions, while the Croatian Football Association said it damaged the country’s football image. Hajduk eventually won the Conference League match 2-1.
