12 former Imo local government chairmen face EFCC probe over alleged diversion of N118.1bn

The Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA) has asked Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the alleged diversion of about N118.1 billion allocated to the 12 local government areas in Imo State’s Orlu Zone between September 2024 and June 2026. The petition, filed by lawyer Emmanuel Chiagoziem Osi, was acknowledged by the EFCC chairman’s office on October 12, 2026, after requests for financial records under the Freedom of Information Act were unsuccessful. OYA national president Prince Izunna Obiefule cited concerns about fictitious contracts and projects that were never carried out, while communities continue to face inadequate roads, water, electricity and public services. The group is calling for a transparent review of the former chairmen’s financial records, contracts, project reports and payment documents.
