The neurology department at Matlaboul Fawzeyni Hospital in Touba admits around 20 stroke patients each month, but a shortage of beds prevents some patients from being admitted. Department head Dr El Hadji Mbengue raised the alarm on October 29, 2026, during World Stroke Day, which included screening for risk factors. Cheikh Bamba Diouf of the Senegalese association supporting stroke patients and their families said the regional hospital in Diourbel has no neurologist. As a result, some patients must be referred to Touba, Thiès, or Dakar.
