The unspoken language surrounding the El Niño phenomenon

The World Meteorological Organization announced on October 8 that a super El Niño is imminent. This extreme climate phenomenon, which occurs every two to seven years, can bring extreme heat, floods, drought, crop and infrastructure destruction, and loss of life. Southern Africa is expected to be hardest hit, but experts also warn of devastating effects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Kenya, Somalia, and Mozambique have begun preparing, while the issue is rarely discussed in the DRC despite reports warning of possible deaths. Jody Daniel Nkashama and Detyna Salumu discuss the lack of attention with Jean-Robert Bwangoy, a geospatial engineer and lecturer at the University of Kinshasa.
