Siguiri, Guinea: After 22 prefectural officials, the Guinean state dismisses 479 neighborhood and district chiefs

Guinea’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization has dismissed 479 district and neighborhood presidents in the Siguiri administrative region. Signed on November 3, 2026, by Minister Djenabou Touré Camara, the decision accuses them of tolerating illegal gold mining, environmental damage, and the accommodation of foreigners residing illegally. Their first vice-presidents will replace them, while the prefecture’s secretary-general and the relevant mayors are responsible for implementing the measure. The dismissals follow the October 30 suspension of 22 regional officials, including Siguiri’s prefect and acting governor.
