RGPH-2: Fridolin Ambongo mobilizes the Catholic Church around the legitimacy of the process and urges the faithful to take ownership

The Catholic Church supports the second General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH-2) in the DRC, an initiative led by the government’s Ministry of Planning. During the opening mass of the 2026-2027 pastoral year in Kinshasa, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo urged priests, abbots, and faithful to take ownership of the operation and assist in its success. He emphasized the importance of accurate demographic data for planning, security, and knowing the true population, criticizing the lack of official identification documents in the country.
