2 members out of 21 of the CAF Executive Committee oppose the return of the Africa Cup of Nations every 2 years

Two members of the CAF Executive Committee, Ahmed Yahya from Mauritania and Souleiman Waberi from Djibouti, oppose the return of the Africa Cup of Nations every two years, despite being a minority in the committee. Their opposition arises amid discussions on reforming the tournament schedule, revived in early October 2026 in Cape Verde. The majority supports returning to a biennial cycle mainly for financial reasons, while CAF is also reconsidering moving back to a four-year cycle starting in 2028.
