2026 U-17 Women's World Cup: Poland defeat proved a turning point for the Flamingos, says Busari

Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari said Nigeria’s 2-1 opening defeat to Poland at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup served as a wake-up call. Nigeria responded with wins over Puerto Rico and defending champions North Korea to reach the Round of 16. The Flamingos finished second in Group B behind North Korea on goal difference. Busari said the loss was a shock after his team had gone unbeaten in more than 20 friendlies and won all four qualifying matches.
