2026 World Cup: 7 African referees selected, including an Algerian and a Moroccan

FIFA has announced the selection of seven African referees for the 2026 World Cup, including Algerian Mustapha Ghorbal and Moroccan Jalal Jayed. The other selected referees are Pierre Atcho (Gabon), Dahane Beida (Mauritania), Abongile Tom (South Africa), Amin Mohamed (Egypt), and Omar Abdulkadir Artan (Somalia). Jean-Jacques Ndala, referee of the 2025 AFCON final, has been excluded, along with other experienced referees such as Victor Gomes and Janny Sikazwe.
