2027 AFCON qualifiers: Ghana turns to women’s team coach amid crisis

After losing their first two 2027 AFCON qualifying matches, 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4-2 to Gambia, Ghana dismissed Carlos Queiroz. The Ghanaian Football Association has appointed Kim Lars Björkegren, the Swedish coach of the women’s Black Queens, to lead the Black Stars on an interim basis, assisted by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, with Fatawu Dauda as goalkeeping coach. The interim staff will oversee Ghana’s two matches against Somalia on November 11 and 15 while the federation searches for a permanent coach. Ghana sit bottom of Group C with no points, six behind Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia.
