2027: Catholic Church declares December 8 national prayer, fasting day

The Catholic Church has declared December 8, 2026, as a national day of prayer and fasting for the success of the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made during the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria held in Osogbo. The bishops also encouraged civic education and mobilization of voters to elect qualified candidates. They expressed concern over poverty and insecurity, urging the government to create job opportunities and improve security.
