Visibly surprised, Al Aminou Lo takes a jab at Sonko: “How can he do that?”

Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo expressed surprise at Ousmane Sonko’s criticism of the management of special funds, noting that Sonko managed them himself for two and a half years without questioning their transparency. Sonko and his Pastef party have made their support for the supplementary budget conditional on controls over these funds. Al Aminou Lo said he was open to dialogue within a framework that respects constitutional requirements and each branch’s authority. He said the movement also aims to educate and empower young people to take advantage of emerging economic opportunities.

Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo defended the 2026 supplementary finance bill on Sunday, accused the parliamentary majority of obstruction and rejected Ousmane Sonko’s proposed televised debate. With the bill rejected in committee and Pastef holding the power to block it, Sonko must regain the initiative before the October 27 plenary session. The article suggests Pastef could submit quantified amendments on subsidies, investment, social spending and special funds, shifting the dispute toward concrete proposals. Sonko warned that subsidy cuts could raise diesel prices, currently 755 CFA francs per litre, while Lo cited oil prices rising from a budgeted $61 a barrel to more than $100 and 540 billion CFA francs already mobilized.
