2027: G-100 coalition reveals when opposition will choose a single candidate to face Tinubu

Salihu Lukman, convener of the G-100 Coalition and a former APC national vice chairman, says opposition parties could announce their consensus candidate for the 2027 presidential election just days or weeks before the vote. Since an opposition summit in Ibadan in April, the initiative has expanded beyond the six original signatories, and parties and their candidates are negotiating directly to build trust. Lukman said an August 31 summit agreed to establish five working groups, including one to handle the choice of a single candidate. He identified distrust among opposition parties and their candidates as a major obstacle to uniting against President Bola Tinubu.
