2027: G100 adopts new name in bid to unseat Tinubu

Opposition parties have dropped the name “G100” and adopted “Coalition for Democracy,” according to a statement issued Thursday in Abuja by co-convener Salihu Lukman. Formed after the August 31, 2026 opposition summit, the coalition includes the ADC, NDC, PRP, SDP, PDP and APM, among others, and plans to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. It accused the ruling APC of shrinking democratic space and called on electoral commission INEC to conduct an independent audit of the voters’ register before December 15 and provide parties with electronic copies. The coalition said government bodies’ and security agencies’ actions raised doubts about whether Nigerians could freely choose their leaders ahead of the January 16, 2027 vote.
