2027: Nigeria is boiling, Tinubu must douse tension now, Turaki says

Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, national chairman of the PDP’s interim national working committee, urged President Bola Tinubu to act urgently against political tension and violence ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. He accused the ruling APC of shrinking political space, attacking opposition groups and using the courts to weaken its rivals. A Yiaga Africa survey released on October 7, 2026, found that 61% of Nigerians feared violence could keep them from voting; only 34% trusted INEC, while 63% had little or no confidence in the judiciary’s handling of election disputes. Turaki cited alleged attacks on supporters of Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar’s ADC presidential campaign and activist Omoyele Sowore, and called on Tinubu to act as a father of the nation rather than a partisan politician.
