2027: Northern Governors Pledge Full Support for Tinubu

Governors of Nigeria’s northern states have pledged full support for President Bola Tinubu, citing the 1999 political understanding that the North should receive two consecutive presidential terms. Speaking for the governors at the opening of the Arewa for Asiwaju national secretariat in Abuja, Uba Sani urged the region to honour the agreement despite its lack of constitutional backing and support Tinubu and his vice president in the 2027 election. Ibrahim Shekarau, the organisation’s board of trustees chairman, thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC leaders and representatives from the northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
