2027 Presidential Election in Burundi: Ndayishimiye to Seek a Second 7-Year Term

Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye has been designated as the candidate of his party, the CNDD-FDD, for the 2027 presidential election. At 57 years old, Ndayishimiye will seek a second seven-year term after assuming the presidency in June 2020. The CNDD-FDD has maintained near-total control over Burundian politics since 2005, while the opposition often remains silenced. Ndayishimiye has cultivated a more moderate image compared to his predecessor, Pierre Nkurunziza.
