2,200 baboon-proof bins headed for Cape Peninsula homes

Starting mid-September 2026, 2,200 of the 6,000 lockable baboon-proof bins will be rolled out in priority areas of the Cape Peninsula, where conflicts with residents have been reported frequently. The first areas to receive the new bins include Plateau Road, Castle Rock, and Tokai East. A northern boundary fence project is also underway to prevent baboons from entering urban and farmland areas, with the process expected to begin later in September.
