Twenty-four civil society organizations and environmental groups have addressed a letter to the President of the Republic, raising concerns over the expansion of mining activities within and around Upemba National Park, located at the intersection of Haut-Katanga, Lualaba, and Haut-Lomami provinces. They warn that species such as zebras, savannah elephants, buffalos, as well as bird and aquatic life, are threatened by this pressure. The coalition calls for an investigation to assess the environmental impact and urges authorities to take measures to protect the park’s biodiversity.
