US judge rules Maurene Comey, daughter of Trump critic James Comey, was illegally fired

Federal Judge Jesse Furman ruled that Donald Trump’s administration illegally fired Maurene Comey, a former federal prosecutor. He said the executive branch overstepped its authority by dismissing protected officials without cause and rejected the administration’s claim that the president could make such firings. The ruling is a setback for the Trump administration, which has faced accusations of removing government employees seen as out of step with the president’s priorities. Maurene Comey is the daughter of James Comey, the former FBI director and prominent Trump critic.
