27 soldiers of the Republican Guard sentenced to death for cowardice by Uvira military court

The Uvira military court sentenced 27 soldiers of the Republican Guard to death for cowardice after a two-week trial at Uvira central prison. These soldiers, from the 21st Simba battalion of the FARDC, were accused of abandoning or poorly defending strategic positions during an attack on Malimba and Masangu heights in August 2026. A total of 112 soldiers appeared before the court, with others receiving prison sentences or being acquitted based on the evidence.
