National Assembly explains why it rejected the government’s 2027 budget

On November 7, 2026, the National Assembly’s Finance and Budgetary Oversight Committee rejected the government’s budget proposals, including those for the Presidency, the Prime Minister’s Office and several other institutions. The proposed allocation for the Presidency was 223.86 billion CFA francs, up from 204.54 billion in 2026. Lawmakers cited inconsistencies in figures, doubts about the reliability of budget forecasts and missing essential documents, including the 2025 budget settlement law. The meeting was chaired by Alphonse Sambou and attended by Finance Minister Cheikh Diba and government representatives.
