Bédiala: An English teacher killed at a checkpoint, teachers beaten and gassed by security forces

English teacher Kéita Daouda from Lycée Moderne de Bédiala was killed on September 26, 2026, at a checkpoint in Bédiala under unclear circumstances. According to the union report, he was riding a motorcycle behind a large truck when a rope used as a barrier struck him violently, throwing him away. Teachers who arrived after the incident were also assaulted and gassed by security forces, causing widespread outrage among educators.
