30 cases of Mpox reported in Dilala prison (Kolwezi)

Since the beginning of 2026, the central prison of Dilala in Kolwezi has reported at least 22 confirmed cases and 8 suspected cases of Mpox. The rapid spread of the disease is attributed to regular contact among prisoners, as the prison currently houses over 1500 inmates, despite a capacity of 500 to 600. The sick are isolated in a room previously used for hearings, and the provincial health ministry has sent supplies for their care.
