Alvarez fires Atletico to win against Deportivo

Julian Alvarez scored the only goal in Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna, moving Diego Simeone’s side to within two points of La Liga leaders Barcelona. Alvarez scored for the second consecutive match after finding the net against Stuttgart in the Champions League, while Jan Oblak made a decisive save in stoppage time to preserve the win. Earlier, Villarreal came from behind to beat Valencia 2-1 with a late goal from Georges Mikautadze, in a derby that saw both teams finish with 10 men.
