41 deaths and over 1,000 accidents in six months: Anaser launches road safety campaign

The National Road Safety Agency (Anaser) launched a national road safety campaign in Louga after recording 1,068 traffic accidents, resulting in 41 deaths and hundreds of injuries in the first half of 2026. A joint police-gendarmerie operation checked 275 vehicles, immobilizing 47 and issuing 115 fines for violations such as speeding, not wearing seat belts, and vehicle defects. Checks focused on roads Louga-Kébémer, Louga-Sakal, and Louga-Dahra, along with awareness sessions for motorcycle drivers to promote safer behavior and reduce accidents.
