The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that 4.85 million customers remain unmetered, despite the delivery of 308,106 meters by electricity distribution companies (DisCos) between May and June 2026. The total number of active customers rose by 0.55% to 12.59 million, with 7,743,839 customers now metered. The federal government aims to close the metering gap and eliminate estimated billing through initiatives like the World Bank-financed Distribution Sector Recovery Programme.
