Machakos County on the Spot Over Ksh96 Million Held by Bank Since 2019

Machakos County is under investigation for holding 96 million Ksh with a bank since 2019 as security for a employee car and mortgage loan scheme. Only 55.3 million Ksh has been disbursed to six beneficiaries, while the remaining funds sit idle without earning interest. Governor Wavinya Ndeti stated that the money is used as collateral for loans from SBM Bank, but the Senate Committee calls for a review of the arrangement to ensure public funds are used effectively. Concerns were also raised about transparency, diversity, and inclusion in county administration.
