Since October 4, 2026, the temporary suspension of driving licenses for phone use while driving has been implemented nationwide in France. Penalties can reach up to six months, especially if the driver holds the phone in hand, to the ear, or with headphones, with only Bluetooth allowed. Results from the Landes experiment show a reduction in phone use at the wheel to below 12%, with hundreds of licenses suspended. The measure aims to decrease accidents caused by phone use, responsible for about 20% of road accidents.
