PROBAK project: CAFI mobilizes an additional $15 million to fund sustainable forest management around Kinshasa

The DRC government, the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) and WWF signed the PROBAK project, backed by $15 million to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce pressure on forests supplying Kinshasa. The funding is the second part of a $30 million program, following an initial $15 million commitment in March 2026 for work in Kwango and Nioki. WWF-DRC will implement this phase in Équateur and Maï-Ndombe provinces, with payments tied to independently verified results. The program aims to cover more than 150,000 hectares and reach nearly 183,000 people through measures including agroforestry, reforestation and community conservation.
