Court orders CATA and CODETA to stop taxi violence in Cape Town

The Western Cape High Court has ordered rival taxi associations CATA and CODETA to stop violence, intimidation and unlawful route takeovers. The immediately effective interim interdict bans road blockades, attacks on public or private transport, property damage and collecting money through threats. It follows a shooting at the Palm taxi rank in Delft on October 28, 2026, followed by attacks on two minibus taxis and the temporary closure of the R300 near Samora Machel. Association leaders have until November 20 to show why the order should not be made final.
