Lassa fever deaths hit 252 as Nigeria records 14 new cases

Nigeria has recorded 252 deaths from Lassa fever out of 1,035 confirmed cases, with a case fatality rate of 24.4%. Between August 10 and 16, 2026, 14 new cases were reported, mainly in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, and Benue states. The majority of confirmed cases come from five states, accounting for 87% of national cases, with the most affected age group being 21 to 30 years.
