UN Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents signed in Accra

Ghana hosted the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents in Accra on 26 October 2026; the UN General Assembly adopted the convention on 15 December 2025. The ceremony coincided with the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). Deputy Foreign Minister James Gyakye Quayson urged countries to sign, ratify and implement the convention, while Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe said it could reduce administrative bottlenecks and improve cargo movement by road, rail and air. The convention is also intended to strengthen trade cooperation and regional integration, including through ECOWAS’s Trade Liberalization Scheme.
