AXIAN, Benin’s Deposits and Consignments Fund, IFC and Proparco signed €30 million in financing agreements for the IPP50 solar project, announced in Cotonou on October 29, 2026. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2028; the plants are expected to supply electricity to about 383,000 people and prevent nearly 62,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Benin’s first independent solar power generation project will sell electricity to SBPE under long-term purchase agreements and operate under a 20-year concession.
