Cocoa: Foder warns about the cost of the EU Regulation for producers weakened by falling prices

The organization Forests and Rural Development (Foder) warns about the ability of Cameroonian cocoa producers to bear the costs of transitioning to new European anti-deforestation requirements, following a significant drop in prices during the 2025-2026 campaign. Foder emphasizes that the current economic model imposes sustainability constraints on producers, who have no control over the selling price of their cocoa. The European Union Regulation on zero deforestation products (RDUE) will come into effect on December 30, 2026, requiring that marketed cocoa be deforestation-free and compliant with the legislation of the country of origin.
