Africa needs AI that serves its priorities

Africa is utilizing AI for critical forecasts, such as drought assessments and satellite maps, yet most AI models are primarily trained in English. The LINGUA Africa initiative, supported by the Gates Foundation and others, aims to strengthen language tools for inclusive AI, receiving over 800 applications from 64 countries. However, trust in these systems depends on their ability to provide advice that reflects local realities, not just linguistic fluency.
