2027: Makinde criticises Tinubu over budget implementation

Oyo State Governor and African Peoples Movement presidential candidate Seyi Makinde criticised the implementation of national budgets under President Bola Tinubu at a town hall meeting in Akure, saying it was unclear which federal budget was being executed. He promised that, if elected in 2027, he would reset Nigeria’s security architecture, economy and political system. Makinde called for a tax system that taxes prosperity rather than poverty and said budget performance in Oyo State had risen from 28–30% to more than 70%, with a January-to-December budget cycle. He also argued that infrastructure projects should serve economic needs rather than political favoritism or regional interests.

The movement says the change in power has not been enough to guarantee democracy and urges President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to abandon any referendum that would alter the constitutional order to extend his time in power.

Lee Engineering is building two midline compressor stations in Edo State to help the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System operate at its full designed capacity of 2.3 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. The project is expected to improve supplies to power plants and industries, support exports to neighbouring countries through the West African Gas Pipeline and create jobs. Lee Engineering founder Leemon Ikpea said the company is manufacturing some station components at its fabrication yard in Warri, Delta State.
