Chinese companies CGCOC Group and Xinjiang Communication Construction Group, responsible for developing the Maroua-Bogo-Pouss road in the Far North, owe approximately 12 billion FCFA. This debt stems from the closure of the African Development Bank (AfDB) loan agreement on December 31, 2024, while the projects were still ongoing. Since January 2025, payments related to the AfDB contribution have ceased, with the bank covering 85% of the costs and the Cameroonian government 15%.
