Magdalena Andersson, leader of Sweden’s Social Democratic Party, announced her efforts to form a government have failed, extending a political deadlock a month after parliamentary elections. She stated negotiations with the three other parties in the left-wing bloc have reached an impasse and she does not believe conditions are in place to form a government tolerated by parliament. Parliament speaker Andreas Norlen said a vote on making Andersson prime minister will proceed on Thursday, but he expects her to likely fail to secure a majority.
