Usoro warns against fake news and deepfakes ahead of 2027 elections
Nigeria’s federal government honoured Miden Systems Limited Executive Chairman Dr Brendan Innocent Usoro for corporate governance and business integrity at a Nigerian Press Council summit in Abuja. Usoro warned that AI-generated misinformation, including deepfakes and coordinated campaigns, could damage businesses, manipulate voters and weaken trust in democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 elections. He urged Nigerians to verify information, recommended platforms such as Dubawa and called for stronger cooperation among journalists, technology companies and regulators, while cautioning against restrictions on press freedom. Founded in 1997, Miden Systems has expanded into marine services, logistics and the maintenance and management of onshore and offshore facilities.
