Kenya Power Customers Faced Worst Outages in May, EPRA Report

In May 2026, Kenya experienced its worst month for power outages, with increased frequency and duration of interruptions. According to the EPRA report, customers faced an average of 4.98 outages per month, the highest of the year, with a SAIDI of 27.33 hours and a CAIDI of 5.49 hours. Over the year, the average outage duration reached 13.16 hours, well above the 1.5-hour target set by EPRA, and the outage frequency exceeded the target of 1.10 per month. These outages disrupt daily life, small businesses, and the economy, especially in manufacturing, agriculture, and the digital sector.
