Two weeks after withdrawing his bid to become UN secretary-general, Macky Sall has not clarified his political plans. Launched in March 2026, his candidacy ended on October 17 after months of diplomatic efforts and had received support from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Babacar Ndiaye of the WATHI think tank says the former president remains active in Senegalese politics and still leads the APR. The party describes itself as part of the opposition and says it aims to regain power in 2029.
