Global food security is under threat

Attacks on commercial vessels have become a recurring tactic in ongoing wars, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict in the Black Sea. In October, drones targeted at least nine vessels off Romania and Bulgaria, both NATO members, as Russia continued to bombard Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea and Danube. Kyiv is using alternative routes to export grain to Africa and the Middle East, including the Danube corridor through Romania and overland routes across the European Union. The attacks threaten shipments of essential commodities such as wheat and corn.
