Benue Govt bans compulsory extra lessons in schools

The Benue State government has banned compulsory extra lessons in schools as pupils resume for the 2026/2027 academic session. Education Commissioner Margaret Adamu stated that Parent-Teacher Associations must seek approval from the Ministry of Education to organize additional lessons, which must remain optional. She also reiterated that graduation ceremonies are only permitted for exit classes and warned against violent birthday celebrations in schools.
