FG destroys 1,419 illicit weapons, recovers 5,449 firearms in 2026

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) destroyed 1,419 illicit weapons and recovered 5,449 firearms in recent nationwide operations. Director-General Johnson Kokumo stated that the destruction aims to prevent illicit weapons from reaching non-state actors and to combat terrorism and violent crime. Additionally, 11 suspects linked to the illegal importation of 844 automatic firearms were arrested.
