The Rhône prefecture has banned all protests in Lyon on Saturday, October 24, following violence during demonstrations on October 17. Mayor Grégory Doucet described hours of “chaos”: between 150 and 200 shops were looted, a tourist office was set on fire, and around 200 people were arrested. The Yellow Vest movement and unions have called for further nationwide demonstrations over the cost of living on Saturday, as well as a general strike and protests on November 5. Mukoko was dismissed by the governor of Kinshasa, while the justice minister ordered an investigation and the CSAC imposed an 88-day media embargo. The UDPS distanced itself from his statements and reaffirmed its commitment to non-violence.
