Sixty-six years after the Sharpeville shooting, which officially left 69 dead and at least 180 injured, survivors and relatives of the victims have filed a lawsuit against the South African state. They are seeking the repeal of a 1961 law that prevents victims and their heirs from claiming reparations. During a ceremony at the memorial, activists reenacted the scene of the shooting to honor the memory of the victims.
