Arrival of the MB PANU 2 raises hopes of improved river transport in Bandundu-Ville

The MB PANU 2 docked on October 22 at the ONATRA port in Bandundu-Ville, in Kwilu Province. Local ONATRA director Tsasa Mambu Eloi says the new vessel is expected to improve passenger travel and freight transport, offering greater comfort and safety. Residents hope it will also support trade that depends on navigable waterways. Its arrival comes ahead of a ban, scheduled to take effect on November 15, 2026, on wooden boats navigating the Congo River and its tributaries.
