UK weather: Storm Austen named by Met Office as yellow wind warning issued

Storm Austen, the first named storm of autumn, is expected to bring severe gales and heavy rain to parts of the UK from Thursday night. The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning from midnight to midday Friday for south Wales, south-west England and England’s southern coastal counties; gusts of up to 70mph could damage buildings, disrupt travel and cause power cuts. Austen will move into the North Sea on Friday, but another low-pressure system will bring further rain and strong winds on Saturday, including gusts of 70-80mph in western Scotland.
