MRC Convention: After Tensions, Legal Challenges and the Election, Does the Final Decision Rest with the Ministry of Territorial Administration?

MRC delegates met on October 17 at the party headquarters in Odza, in Yaoundé IV, under gendarmerie surveillance, with no major incidents reported. Tiriane Balbine Noah was elected national president with 96.89% of the votes cast. The convention went ahead despite Willy Mengue’s legal challenge seeking its annulment before the Centre Administrative Court, as well as criticism from Joseph Thierry Okala Ebodé. The Ministry of Territorial Administration, headed by Paul Atanga Nji, had previously questioned the legitimacy of Maurice Kamto’s return to the party presidency.
